Steel plate weight
No holes or coatings.
Method
Worked case: 2 m × 1 m × 10 mm is 157 kg.
What to write beside the result
A review can only check this figure if the inputs sit next to it. Write the value, the unit and the assumption the form used. A diameter in millimetres and a diameter in metres are not the same reading. A force in kilonewtons divided as if it were newtons is a thousand-fold error.
The result is the arithmetic on this page. It is not a utilisation, not a selected product, and not a clause from a standard. If the number is going into a shared container, name the page, the date and the inputs. The file-name checker does not read the calculation.
Logic: how this figure is built.
How to read a plate weight
Mass is area times thickness times density. A 2 m by 1 m plate, 10 mm thick, at 7,850 kg/m³ is 157 kg. Thickness must be in metres for that product: 10 mm is 0.01 m.
The area is the plate area, not the bounding box if there is a cut-out. A hole, a notch and a folded stiffness are not added or subtracted unless you change the area.
Density is 7,850 kg/m³ on the worked case. Stainless and aluminium are different. The page uses the density you type.
Use it to check a plate schedule line. It is not a beam weight per metre from a steel table.
