Engineering unit converter
Five quantities. Factors are exact SI conversions where a defined factor exists.
Method
Foot = 0.3048 m. Pound-force = 4.4482216152605 N. Psi = 6894.757293168 Pa. Mechanical horsepower = 745.6998715822702 W. Kilogram-force uses standard gravity 9.80665 m/s².
How to read a conversion
The page multiplies by a fixed factor between the units named on the form. It is a unit change, not a calculation of a physical result. A length in millimetres and the same length in metres are the same distance.
The common failure is converting a derived unit as if it were a length. A stress in N/mm² is 1 MPa. A moment in kN·m is not a kilonewton times a millimetre until you divide by a thousand. The page converts the dimension you selected, not every dimension on a drawing.
Temperature differences and temperature points are not the same conversion. A 20 K difference is a 20°C difference. A point of 20°C is 293 K. Use the difference when the formula asks for a change.
Use it before a formula page when a drawing and a data sheet do not share a unit. It does not check the formula.
